Cal Club joins the U.S. Top 100

In September 2011, just three years after a complete remodel by Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design, the California Golf Club of San Francisco, one of the Bay Area's oldest and most respected private clubs, has been added to Golf Magazine's list of Top 100 Courses in the United States. This coming shortly after Golf Week Magazine ranked the remodeled Cal Club #35 on its list of Best Classic Courses in the U.S.
The course was originally designed by A. Vernon Macan in 1925 and in 1927, Dr. Alister MacKenzie rebuilt a few select greens and re-bunkered the entire course. Over the years several changes occurred to the property, compromising the overall quality of the course, particularly the front nine holes where an adjacent road was constructed within the club's original property boundary. In 2007, Phillips and his team rearranged several of the front nine holes, relocating the practice facility and building 6 completely new holes.
