Company

Kyle PhilliipsKyle Phillips Golf Course Design is a full service international golf course design firm located in Granite Bay, California. Established by Kyle in 1997, the company provides world-class golf course design, golf course construction and construction bid documents, golf course feasibility studies, field design, construction shaping specialist services, as well as renovation and historical restoration.

The Kyle Phillips design philosophy stems from the belief that golf courses should have their own character and personality derived from the site’s existing natural features, as well as its location and history. Where natural golf features do not exist, Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design has shown an unparalleled ability to create natural appearing landforms for traditional first-class golf experiences.

With a deep knowledge and distinctive expertise for links style layouts, Phillips has been awarded a number of high profile designs, including Kingsbarns Golf Links near St. Andrews, Scotland. Kingsbarns, a magnificent seaside links course opened in 2000 and by 2001 had already launched into the Top 50 courses in the world ranking by GOLF Magazine. It also received Golf Digest’s Best New International Course listing and has served as host of the Dunhill Links Championship since 2001.

Other notable designs include The Grove, a 300 acre (125 hectare) country estate and prestigious 5-star hotel & spa near London, which hosted the top 50 players in the world for the 2006 American Express World Golf Championship, and the ultra‐exclusive Dundonald-Loch Lomond Golf Club, a private club on the west coast of Scotland. Phillips created Dundonald in a traditional links style, much like its famous Ayrshire neighbors including Turnberry, Prestwick and Troon.

In addition to the numerous award winning new course designs, Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design has also been entrusted with the remodeling work of several high profile and historically significant courses, including all of the design work at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Virginia, in preparation for the 2000 and 2005 President’s Cup competitions. In 2006, Kyle Phillips was awarded the design for the complete remodeling of The California Golf Club of San Francisco, which included a creative combination of redesign and detailed historic restoration of the original Vernon Macan and Alister Mackenzie architecture. The result was a startling transformation that earned the club a spot on Golfweek’s list of Top 100 Classic Courses, within the first year of re‐opening.

Current remodeling clients include Europe’s #1 and #2 ranked courses, Valderamma (host of the Volvo Masters) in Spain and Morfortaine, near Paris, which is regarded as France’s premiere golf club. In Holland, Harry Colt’s Hilversum has recently completed Phase 1 of a Kyle Phillips Master Plan and the club has been awarded the Dutch Open Championship for 2010.
